The decision by the Haydock stewards to demote Lamanver Odyssey to second place after the Challenger Mares’ Series Handicap Hurdle Final on Saturday completed an unfortunate and possibly unique reverse for her owner breeder Dr Donna Christensen.
Two years ago the horse’s full sister Lady Of Lamanver was disqualified and placed second for causing minimal interference after winning the EBF Mares’ Final at Newbury.
Our worst fears were realised when the placings of the the first two were reversed with Noel Fehily picking up a two day ban for careless riding.
After making much of the running, jumping fluently, Lamanver Odyssey had shown great character to fight back after being headed going to the final flight.
She ran a tremendous race considering she wants further than two miles, three furlongs and hopefully there will be other days for here.
We are unlikely to appeal the result of the steward’s inquiry because by drifting left across The Delray Munky after the final flight our mare technically broke the rules.
But it was a close run thing and tough to take for all the team.
