If The Cap Fits made a stylish winning debut in the colours of Paul and Clare Rooney in the bumper at Plumpton on Monday.

We expected him to be quite green in his first race but he travelled well throughout before easing into the lead early in the straight and keeping on willingly to comfortably beat Puppet Warrior by two and a quarter lengths despite seeming a bit lost in front.

It was good to train our first winner for the Rooneys who now have three horses with us.

Noel Fehily was very taken by If The Cap Fits and liked the way he quickened up smartly when the race began in earnest.

The horse is from a high-class jumping family and joined us half-way through last season after being broken in and pre-trained in Ireland.

Our patience with him is hopefully paying off now. We'll see how he comes out of the race before making any plans for the future.
