Air Horse Back To Winning ways
It has been a long time coming so it was brilliant to see Air Horse One back in the winner’s enclosure at Ffos Las for the first time since he was successful off a mark of 132 at Ascot in February, 2017.
Over the next year or so his handicap rating rose to a peak 150 without any more success.
Now, at last, Air Horse One was running off a mark of 128, which we know he can be competitive from. He ran with a degree of promise last time at Plumpton on his first start since a wind op and he had also enjoyed a day’s hunting with the Cattistock who met at the top of the Seaborough gallop where Richard Barber is buried.
We felt the handicap at Ffos Las offered a decent chance for him to get back to winning ways equipped with blinkers for the first time.
So we were delighted to see Air Horse One travel and jump in style before stretching clear for a facile victory by thirty lengths.
Given that it was a poor race, hopefully the handicapper will not get carried away. Now that the horse has got his confidence back we will be looking for a similar opportunity for him over two and a half miles on testing ground.
