Opening Batsman rolled back the years with his first victory for 24 months at Ludlow on Monday in the colours of the Twelfth Man Partnership.

Although he has struggled in his previous races this season at the age of eleven we felt he still had the ability once he was given half a chance by the handicapper and so it proved off a mark of 129 with the help of a fine ride by our assistant Mikey Legg.

The ideal conditions for Opening Batsman are good ground on a right hand track over three miles which he got in the Class 3 Racing UK Handicap Chase at Ludlow.

He travelled well enough through the race in his customary blinkers, was left second by the fall of Capard King at the third last and finished strongly to catch According To Harry after the last fence before stretching clear by three and three quarter lengths.

Now that Opening Batsman has found his way back into the winner's enclosure we will look for another similar race for him before the end of the season.
