Gigolo strikes at Lingfield
American Gigolo opened his account on the flat with a straight-forward victory in the mile and a half maiden at Lingfield on Saturday.
He is one of ours that can’t handle the prevailing testing ground at jumps tracks around the country. So it makes sense to campaign him on the all-weather for the time being.
American Gigolo was unlucky not to win on his debut at Lingfield a fortnight ago when things didn’t quite go his way but he was never going to be beaten on Saturday once he eased into a clear lead two furlongs out.
At the line he was two and three-quarters ahead of the 5-4 favourite Master Archer who has been in the frame a number of times and has an official rating of 79.
It was a timely success which opened up more options for the horse if the ground doesn’t start to dry out.
Further ahead I’d like to think that American Gigolo can develop into a useful staying handicapper on the flat while continuing his progress over hurdles.
