Ivan back to form
Cheek pieces and a change of tactics helped Sir Ivan bounce back to form in the Class 3 two mile, five and a half furlong handicap hurdle at Wincanton on Saturday.
It was his first success over hurdles in almost five years at a starting price of 16-1. So full marks to the Racing Post’s Paul Kealy who had the foresight to tip him as an each way selection in his column.
Confidence was not high after the horse didn’t show much interest before being pulled up at Wincanton last time.
Sir Ivan then had a fruitless journey to Exeter on December 19 when racing was called off while he was in the pre parade ring.
He didn’t really progress over fences and had become frustrating back over hurdles while still on a mark in the mid 130’s.
We would have been happy if he’d finished in the money on Saturday under top weight having been dropped 3 lbs so it was good to see him travel like the old Sir Ivan, never miss a beat and find more when headed by Maypole Class going to the final flight.
When your team is going well these things can happen and we will try to continue to ride the wave.
