Dashing Oscar doubled his score for the season with a game victory under a penalty in the two mile NH novices' hurdle at Sandown on Saturday.

He jumped fluently throughout and was always prominent before knuckling down and digging deep to hold the sustained challenge of Crystal Lad by a neck.

It was a pleasing performance from atalented horse who made his experience count.

Dashing Oscar has not been the easiest to train as he had issues with sore shins and a skin allergy.

So it is encouraging that for the first time we have managed to get back to back runs into him.

Looking back to his debut success in a bumper at Newton Abbot in October 2014 it is fascinating to see that Native River, last weekend's impressive Hennessy Gold Cup winner, finished over eight lengths behind him in third place.

The two horses have taken rather different paths since then but Dashing Oscar is definitely going the right way now.

We will see how he comes out of his latest race before making any plans for him.
