Space Oddity made a pleasing start to his chasing career with an all the way success in the £6,330 Beginners' Chase at Uttoxeter on Saturday.

Apart from one early mistake he jumped fluently at a strong pace and was always in charge before readily beating Hargam who was rated 5 lbs higher than him over hurdles.

Space Oddity was our first winner of the new season after a tremendous finish to the last campaign which ended a week ago.

Our horses earned in excess of £1 million for their owners for the first time with our best total of 67 winners in this country, plus two major victories at Punchestown.

It was good to get off the mark with Space Oddity who jumps well, is suited by forcing tactics in small fields of runners and on this performance could make a better chaser than hurdler.

He is quite exciting and handles summer ground so we will see how he comes out of the race before deciding whether to keep him on the go over the next couple of months.
