Fehily still amongst the winners
Nine months after his retirement from the saddle Noel Fehily is still a key part of our team and it was great to share another victory with him at Taunton on Tuesday.
Noel has set up his own syndicate with the help of his good friend & former weighing room colleague Dave Crosse. They own Shall We Go Now who defied an absence of almost two years, caused by a tendon injury, with a winning comeback in a division of the maiden hurdle under Sean Bowen.
Noel & Dave were there with several members of the syndicate to cheer the horse on. Shall We Go Now was our first runner for them and hopefully there will be more to come as he is bound to improve for the experience after a long lay off.
He travelled well through the race, jumping soundly, and looked like winning comfortably when leading at the final flight before tiring a little late on.
The last time he ran 617 days ago he finished second in a maiden race at Windsor to Aspetar, a horse of Roger Charlton’s who has since won a Group 1 race in Germany. What’s more we gave him 13lbs at Windsor!
It was pleasing to see Shall We Go Now finally get his head in front at Taunton and long term we might have a look at another race or two for him on the flat.
