Wolf pounces in the fog
Neon Wolf made a stunning debut for us in the closing bumper at Uttoxeter on Tuesday.
Noel Fehily reported that they made just about all the running and he should know as you couldn't see much given that fog covered most of the racecourse.
Neon Wolf is a fine big, strong horse who, I felt, would benefit from a run for experience before going hurdling as he was well short of peak fitness despite doing plenty of work at home.
Although he was much too keen and gassy for most of the race he was still in front on the home turn and then, after Noel gave him a little breather, he kept picking up as he galloped on powerfully to win by fully twelve lengths.
It was a hugely exciting introduction which leaves us in the nice position of wondering whether to keep him for the best bumpers for the rest of the season or maybe switch him to hurdles.
Niall rang pretty much as the horse passed the post and we quickly did a deal to secure him for his new owners Masterson Holdings.
While it is early days for Neon Wolf he does look one who could give them a lot of fun in the next couple of years.
