We enjoyed a double at Uttoxeter on Saturday but were left wondering what might have been after Lightly Squeeze fell heavily at the last flight while holding a slender lead in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.

Having been handy the whole way he edged ahead at the second last and was still going strongly when he came down at the final flight in a horrid incident that brought down two other horses.

Lightly Squeeze lay winded for a while before getting up and thankfully his jockey Rex Dingle is ok having been taken to hospital for precautionary X rays on his leg.

Given the severe nature of the fall we were relieved and pleased to be taking home Lightly Squeeze in one piece, however he will be stiff and sore for a day or two.

He has been on a roll in the past couple of months and we will give him plenty of time to recover before thinking about future plans. One option is to give him a spin on the flat given his handicap make of 77 as he is rated 137 over hurdles.

Any Drama was the first to strike for the yard at Uttoxeter in a Class 3 handicap hurdle where he showed a great attitude under pressure to beat Theo’s Charm by a head in a tight finish.

He was up there the whole way, was headed two out and found more on the run in with the help of a power packed ride from Sean Bowen to snatch the verdict in the last couple of strides.

The trip of two and a half miles on deep ground is ideal for Any Drama who could well return for a £50,000 handicap hurdle over the same distance at the track on Midlands Grand National day.

The Jitterbug then completed a good day for the team with a decisive success in the maiden long distance hurdle in the colours of the Twelfth Man Partnership.

He appreciated stepping up in trip after a highly encouraging debut over hurdles at Taunton on his return from a long lay off and relished the heavy ground at Uttoxeter.

We will look for another long distance hurdle while the ground is testing for The Jitterbug who has the scope to make an exciting novice chaser next season.
