Winning Start for Canelie
Canelie made a winning start in this country with a comfortable victory in the two mile, three furlong Handicap Hurdle at Taunton on Tuesday.
Successful four times in French bumpers, she was sent to us us six weeks ago by JP McManus after a disappointing run last time at Cork in November when she was found to be clinically abnormal after the race.
Although something was clearly amiss then, we have liked Canelie from day one. Her work had been encouraging, her training has gone smoothly and her form in Ireland last season was strong enough to make us think she would take a bit of beating on her debut for us.
She travelled well throughout the race, cruised into contention on the final bend, led between the last two flights and kept on to beat the favourite Padleyourowncanoe by one and three quarter lengths.
It was a very pleasing start by Canelie who can hopefully progress through the season and maybe step up in trip at some point.
A fine, well built mare she has the scope to jump fences one day
