Golden Birthday doubled his score on the flat with a cosy victory in a Class 4 twelve furlong handicap at Kempton on Monday evening.

He seemed to enjoy racing on the all weather surface, was handy throughout and quickened to win nicely by three-quarters of a length from St Malo.

In some ways it was nothing more strenuous than a good piece of work at home.

We will see how he comes out of the race in the next few days as he holds an entry on Saturday in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow.

It is fair to say his hurdles mark of 147 is high enough but ground conditions at Chepstow should be in his favour so there is a chance he could turn out again quickly.

While we are taking one step at a time on the flat with Golden Birthday we are looking long term to running him in staying handicaps next summer on decent ground.

Before then he might have one more run somewhere on the flat.
