Exciting hurdle debutant

If The Cap Fits made a really pleasing start to his hurdles career with a comfortable victory over two and a quarter miles at Exeter on Thursday.

Twice successful in bumpers last season he has been schooling well at home ahead of this first test at one of our local tracks.

He bowled into the lead from flagfall, jumped with enthusiasm and though pressed briefly between the last two flights, he stretched clear on the flat to beat Blu Cavalier by eight lengths.

For a novice to jump so fluently first time and make all the running is very exciting.

It was certainly the perfect introduction to hurdles for If The Cap Fits who had a good blow afterwards and will hopefully improve and progress as he gains experience.

All being well we will aim him at another novice event under a penalty before perhaps raising his sights as he gains experience.

Long term he will make a lovely chaser but that is all in the future.
