Bags still in the Groove

Bags Groove showed grit and determination at Kempton on Monday to defy an 8lbs rise for his latest success at Aintree fifteen days ago.

He briefly looked in trouble when he dropped back on the final bend in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle.

But he then rallied once switched to the far side by Noel Fehily, came with a strong run going to the last flight and kept on well to beat The Last Samurai by one and a quarter lengths.

Bags Groove is much more professional these days and I liked the way he dug deep after apparently struggling as they turned for home.

This race probably came soon enough for him after Aintree but I was keen to make use of the current good ground before it turns soft.

Bags Groove shaped at Kempton as though he wants three miles and is now qualified for the Pertemps Final so the pressure is off.

If the rain comes then we can put him away for the winter and bring him back in the spring. But if the weather is reasonably dry over the next three or four weeks then we will keep him on the go.
