A Double at Warwick

A double at Warwick on Saturday took our score for the season to 38.

Overtown Express and American both benefitted from copy book rides by Noel Fehily who continues to be a brilliant ally for the yard.

Noel has been in unstoppable form these past few weeks but I am sorry to report that he ended his day having checks on his shoulder in hospital after a heavy fall at the second fence in the long distance Betfred Classic Chase.

Here's hoping he will be back as quickly as possible.

He was at his patient best on Overtown Express in the Courage Cup Handicap Chase, sitting well off the fierce early pace before making ground steadily along the back straight and then launching his mount on a winning run after jumping the second last.

Two miles on such testing ground was perfect for Overtown Express who jumps well and is already looking a better chaser than hurdler.

He will probably run next in a novice chase under a penalty.

Noel then showcased his excellent judgement of pace by making all the running on American in the Listed Hampton Novices' Chase.

The plan was to let this exciting youngster bowl along and it was a joy to watch him sailing confidently over the testing series of fences along the back straight.

Noel was very complimentary about American afterwards and suggested the Coral Welsh National would be an obvious target for him next Christmas.

But he is such a fragile horse that we have to take it a day at a time with him.

We'll give him entries at the Festival in the RSA Chase and the four mile Challenge Cup and he would be an interesting contender in one of those races if it came up soft at Cheltenham in March.
