A New Chapter For Ruby

Everyone involved with the yard is excited at the prospect of ROCK ON RUBY running over fences for the first time at Plumpton tomorrow.

On paper he appears to have a straighforward task against just two opponents who, over hurdles have not reached nearly the same heights as Ruby.  But in novice chases you can never be sure.  So while we are looking forward to him getting started over the bigger obstacles the first priority is a clear round.

At the beginning of the season we were thinking of keeping him to hurdles for another year.  Why not when he won the Champion HUrdle in 2012 and was second in the race last March, when he had to do all the donkey work?  But his defeat at the hands of the brilliant young hurdler The New One led to a re-think.  His jumping at home over our schooling fences has been sound but we will see how he gets on at Plumpton before thinking about any long term plans for him.  Of course, with such a high rating over hurdles he is expected to win however, jumping is the name of the game and that is what he has to do on his debut over fences.
