Blue Buttons kept up the sparkling run of our horses with an impressive first success over hurdles today.  We have now had 18 winners from 51 runners this season which is a pretty healthy strike rate.

I have to admit it was a nice surprise to see Blue Buttons pull readily clear of the heavily backed favourite Centasia who had very smart form.

It is always a pleasure to train a winner for my landlord Richard Barber who has been such an inspiration to me since I first rode out for him as a 13 year old Schoolboy.

Richard certainly has a nice prospect in Blue Buttons who won a point to point over two and a half miles before showing plenty of promise for us in two bumpers.  Her first attempt over hurdles at Exeter in November ended at the first flight where she was badly hampered and lost her jockey.  Then she did much better in finishing third in a maiden hurdle at Warwick.

Today she jumped and travelled really well in the lead before easily seeing off Centasia, I particularly liked the way she was notably strong at the finish.  I'll try to find another little race for her before targeting the Mares Final at Newbury in the Spring.

Blue Buttons (pictured above at our Open Day in September) ran out an easy winner
of the Mares' Hurdle at Exeter today under Noel Fehily.
