Just perfect from Sting

Just A Sting won on his debut over fences at Uttoxeter on Thursday with the help of a typically patient educational ride from Noel Fehily.

We experienced something of a frustrating campaign last season with Just A Sting, a dual bumper winner who did not appear to enjoy racing on the deep ground that prevailed for much of the winter. But he was placed three times over hurdles in decent company before again struggling on soft going in March on his final start.

Just A Sting was always going to be a chaser and made the perfect start in a competitive novice handicap over two miles, six and a half furlongs at Uttoxeter where he jumped soundly off the pace before moving into contention in the final mile and leading at the last fence.

He then ran on well to beat Station Master by two lengths with the favourite Dashing Perk a length away third.

With the ground still quick enough at a lot of racecourses we haven’t been pushing any buttons with our horses at home and Noel is confident Just A Sting will improve a fair bit for the outing at Uttoxeter.

He has done all his schooling this autumn over brush hurdles, which are a bit like baby fences, in our new outdoor arena which is proving a timely addition to our facilities in such a dry year.

Hopefully he can now go from strength to strength over fences.
