My decision not to run Rock on Ruby at Doncaster on Saturday was a straightforward one in the end.
I very much wanted him to take part to give him more experience over fences. But the horse always comes first in these situations and he is one who really does need decent ground to show his best.
I thought conditions were quite testing at Doncaster on the Friday and my mind was made up when the course reported that they had an extra six millimetres of rain overnight. That well and truly scuppered our plans.
With more rain all over the country on Sunday it is difficult to be sure of where Ruby will be running next. But there are options available to him next week and you can be sure I will be trying to find a suitable race for him ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.
