Highland Retreat delivered the first success for the Harry Fry Racing Club with a decisive victory in a Mares Novice Chase at Huntingdon on Sunday.

Forty members have signed up to the Club since it was launched just over two months ago and  they had plenty to cheer at Huntingdon as she made all the running, jumping enthusiastically, before readily shrugging off the challenge of the smart mare Mickie by nine lengths.

It was a well deserved win for Highland Retreat racing against her own sex after she was only just pipped by Return Spring at Exeter last time.

She is as tough and genuine as they come, a real mud lark who appreciated the rain that arrived before racing on Sunday and will be suited by a return to three miles.

It is hard to believe that it is only just over two years since Highland Retreat gave me my first success as a trainer in October, 2012 at Exeter.

She has done wonderfully well for us since that memorable day and is likely to head to Doncaster next towards the end of month for a new Listed Mares Chase.
