Royale Win for Mahon

Shuil Royale bounced back to form at Ludlow on Wednesday with a narrow victory in the three mile handicap chase on his first run since joining us in October.

It was his first outing for 376 days and although he was fit enough to do himself justice I felt there was room for improvement.

He was a bit fresh and exuberant after a break but Ryan Mahon did a good job in settling him.

Shuil Royale then came through to lead at the second last fence and did just enough to hold the strong late challenge of Shy John on the flat.

He had time off after an injury and this was his first win for 23 months. Hopefully he can go on from here and build on this success for his enthusiastic owner Phil Fry.
