Shuil success equals best tally
The impressive victory of Shuil Royale in the Pheasant Inn Handicap Chase at Newbury on Friday took our score for the campaign to 34 winners, which matched our best previous total from last season.
It was a relief to be back in the winner's enclosure for the first time in a fortnight as some of our horses have been suffering from a low grade virus.
It's fair to say this success was a timely boost for the yard, though I would stress that not all the horses have been under a cloud.
Indeed three of our team Activial, Henryville and Bitofapuzzle all came tantalisingly close to giving us a breakthrough triumph at the Cheltenham Festival. So it has not been all doom and gloom by any means.
I thought Shuil Royale did well to defy top weight at Newbury after a rise of 7 lbs for his recent narrow victory at Ludlow. It was good to see him win two on the bounce since he joined us and although he is now ten hopefully there is a bit more improvement to come.
With the horses responding to treatment the plan is to kick on again with them to the end of the season and we have some interesting runners in the weeks ahead. Rock on Ruby is back on course for Aintree, Bitofapuzzle is pencilled in for a Grade 1 Mares Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse in a fortnight and Activial is likely to run next in France in April.
