Vivant Poeme gained an overdue first success over hurdles at Fontwell on Wednesday after a frustrating run of placed efforts.

It is fair to say that up to now he has not quite been showing on the track what he has been showing us at home.

But his recent form has been progressive to the point that the handicapper has been raising his mark even though he hasn't been winning.

On Wednesday Vivant Poeme benefitted from an ice-cool, patient ride by Noel Fehily as he moved stealthily into the race on the final circuit before easing into the lead at the last flight.

He then pulled readily clear of two previous winners.

It was good to see Vivant Poeme reward the patience of his owners Andy and Sharon Measham.

We will keep him on the go now and most likely look for another novice hurdle under a penalty.
