A double at Taunton on Thursday took our score for the season to 27 winners.

Whataknight set the ball rolling with an all the way victory in the staying novice hurdle with the help of a fine ride by Noel Fehily.

The horse travelled well, jumping fluently, and found more when pressed by the odds-on favourite Rock On Oscar in the closing stages.

Whataknight was Richard Barber's last winner as a Point-to-Point trainer and won five times between the flags before joining us in the autumn. In time he will make a chaser.

He appreciated the better going at Taunton as almost all his winning form in points was on good ground.

I'll keep him to hurdles for the time being and will look for another suitable race for him under a penalty.

Drumcliff completed a good day for the yard with a comfortable success in the bumper that offered bags of promise for the future.

A half-brother to the brilliant Simonsig, he is a lovely prospect and I am grateful to JP McManus for sending him to me this season.

It was good to see Drumcliff make a winning start to his racecourse career. He tracked the leaders for more than a circuit before stretching ahead in the straight despite running green.

I'd like to think there will be plenty more to come from him as he gains experience.
