Milestone reached with Odessa

The success of Queen Odessa in the bumper at Doncaster on Saturday provided a significant milestone for our yard.

She was our 37th winner of the season in this country which is one more than our best total achieved last season.

The plan was for Nick Scholfield to ride a waiting race on Queen Odessa. But with the entire field loitering at the start Nick used his initiative, switched to Plan B, and set off upsides in front on Queen Odessa who proceeded to make nearly all the running for a narrow victory over the hot favourite Kayf Grace.

The form of Queen Odessa's debut run at Lingfield could hardly have worked out better and the style of her triumph at Doncaster confirmed our view that she is a nice stayer in the making.

Earlier in the afternoon her full brother King's Odyssey won a competitive novices' handicap chase at Cheltenham.

He was originally owned by Jonathan Whymark who sold him after a smart run in a bumper and invested some of the proceeds in his sister Queen Odessa.

The early signs suggest he has a very promising mare on his hands.
