Maidens off the mark
We enjoyed a double at Exeter on Thursday with two nice young horses who both offered plenty of promise for the future.
First to strike was Wotzizname in the opening long distance novice hurdle. He had fair form in West Country point-to-points before joining us two months ago and won with his head in his chest by fifteen lengths from Say My Name who is rated 130.
While Wotzizname had shown a fair bit at home it was still something of a surprise to see him in total command over the last mile.
He gave his owners Charles and Stephanie a great thrill by providing them with their first winner under rules at the first attempt.
We might run Wotzizname under a penalty if the ground does not dry up but I imagine he will be chasing sooner than later next season.
Brotherly Company rounded off a rewarding afternoon for the team with his first success over hurdles in the first division of the two mile novice hurdle.
Bought at the horses in training sale at Newmarket last October he has progressed with each run and won nicely for us at the third time of asking.
Brotherly Company is one who will appreciate better ground so we will keep him going through the spring and summer before putting him away in the autumn when the rain comes.
