Another Punchestown success for Fletchers
Fletchers Flyer gave us the perfect start to the new season with a decisive success in a valuable handicap chase over three and three quarter miles at Punchestown on Saturday.
On his fourth start over fences he jumped brilliantly and travelled with eye catching ease in the leading pair before readily seeing off the late challenge of Forever Gold by two and a half lengths.
The bonus from this handsome victory is that Fletchers Flyer will remain a novice in Britain for the next twelve months.
That allows us to look ahead at long distance races like the NH Chase at Cheltenham and or a Grand National somewhere.
Fletchers Flyer was winning at Punchestown for the second time having landed a bumper at the same meeting two years ago.
He has always shaped like a stayer and ran really well in his first two novice chases at Exeter and Cheltenham before struggling at Huntingdon in January when he wasn't quite right.
We gave Fletchers Flyer a short break early in the New Year and were thinking of taking him to Aintree until his homework suggested he probably needed another fortnight.
His last piece of work gave us plenty of confidence ahead of Punchestown where he was given a typically fine ride by Noel Fehily who is such a tremendous asset to the yard.
