Bittersweet Success

The narrow success of Goodnitesweetheart came as a timely tonic after a tough day for the team at Taunton on Tuesday.

Just over an hour earlier Misterton and Noel Fehily were bang in contention when they came down heavily at the second last hurdle in the feature race of the day.

It was a horrible fall and though it was a huge relief to see Noel Fehily helped to his feet I am sorry to say that Misterton did not survive.

He was a brilliant horse for us, winning four times and finishing second in the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham. To lose a smart hurdler, rated 141, was a big blow when he was running so well on his return from a long break.

With Noel stood down for the rest of the day Kieron Edgar proved to be an excellent substitute on Goodnitesweetheart in the three mile mares’ handicap hurdle.

She had run with much promise at Fontwell last month on her first start for twenty months and we were hopeful that she had improved for the outing.

She was handy throughout, pressed on turning for home and though not doing a lot in front, dug deep to hold the strong challenge of the bottom weight Lamh Ar Lamh in a tight finish.

Now that Goodnitesweetheart has rewarded the patience of her owners I am hopeful that she can be successful again at her level before switching at some point to fences.
