An across the card double at Taunton and Southwell on Monday took our score to 54 which matches our best total of winners set last season.
Bags Groove was the first to strike under a penalty in the opening novice hurdle at Taunton.
He appreciated the drop in grade from last time and won nicely after a brief tussle with the second favourite Capeland between the last two flights.
Noel Fehily was spot on afterwards when he suggested that the horse thinks he knows a bit more about racing than he really does.
While there is no doubt that Bags Groove is still quite immature he is going the right way and we might raise his sights now by aiming him at a Class 2 novices' hurdle at Cheltenham next month.
Noel is riding at the peak of his powers after a brilliant four days at Cheltenham but 16 year old Ben Godfrey is just starting out on his journey as a jockey.
Top marks to Ben for winning the bumper on Rosemary Russet at Southwell on his first ride under NH rules.
Earlier this year Ben won a pony race at our local meeting at Littlewindsor before gaining his first Point-to-Point success at the first attempt later the same afternoon.
He works hard in the yard and looked the part as he rode to victory on Rosemary Russet who is bred to stay and was well suited by the ease in the ground following rain at the track.
She ground it out well in the closing stages after being strongly challenged by the runner-up in the closing stages.
We will see how she comes out of the race before making any firm plans.
