Art off the mark
It was good to see Art of Payroll make a successful debut for the yard at Southwell on Sunday in the Vivienne Squires Trophy Chase, the most valuable race on the card.
We thought he was quite well handicapped and he looked like winning with something to spare when he tanked into the lead on the final bend.
The plan was to run him in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen until he suffered a bout of colic 48 hours before that race.
Southwell was the next suitable option for this smart recruit who is now off the mark in this country despite tending to be on and off the the bridle and not always jumping fluently.
As Art of Payroll stays further we will look at the Kerry National for him over three miles at Listowel next month, worth 175,000 Euros, though he does need good ground.
He will also get an entry in a decent handicap chase at Market Rasen over two miles, five furlongs at the end of September.
