Christmas comes early at Uttoxeter

A double at Uttoxeter on Friday continued the sparkling form of our team heading into Christmas.

While Captain Drake was a deserved winner of the maiden hurdle the undoubted star of the day was King Roland who won the bumper with astounding ease.

He was our sixth bumper winner in the past three weeks or so and had been giving us all the right signals in his recent work even though we have never asked him a question on our gallops. He also impressed on an away day at Wincanton last week.

A decisive winner of his only point to point at Larkhill on Easter Saturday, he joined us soon afterwards following his purchase by the Masterson family who owned the ill fated Neon Wolf.

We looked at King Roland on Easter Sunday and the deal was completed the following day.

He filled out and strengthened over the summer and already looks a wonderful prospect.

Noel Fehily gave him a chance early on at Uttoxeter before letting him stride into the lead turning for home.

The race then turned into a procession with King Roland fully twenty two lengths clear of the runner up at the line. He is a relentless galloper who could have gone round again.

It was a brilliant start to his career with us and we are thinking of running him next in the Listed bumper at Newbury in February before maybe taking him to the Spring Festival at Punchestown. Further down the line he looks every inch a chaser.

Captain Drake had given us a perfect start to the afternoon at Uttoxeter. He moved comfortably through the race before leading three out and keeping on stoutly to beat Liosduin Bhearna by three and a quarter lengths.

We have the option of running Captain Drake under a penalty or going down the handicap route with him. He, too, will make a chaser in time.
