Ridgeway Flyer took our score for the season to 48 with his second course victory at Ludlow on Wednesday.
It has taken time for the penny to drop with this promising horse who made all the running in his bumper at Ludlow eleven months ago and was then far too keen for his own good in his first two races over hurdles this season.
After racing with the choke out at Ascot in November he lost his chance at Wincanton a month later before the tapes rose by rushing headlong to the start like a five furlong sprinter.
Ridgeway Flyer settled better at Exeter last time when he was dropped in at the rear before finishing well and he was a bit more relaxed again at Ludlow with the help of a nice patient ride from Niall Madden.
Produced between the last two flights he quickened up smartly to put his seal on the race.
We now have the option of running Ridgeway Flyer under a penalty in another novice event or switching him to handicaps depending on how much he is raised from his current mark of 117.
