It felt good to finally reach a half century for the jumps season on Sunday after a frustrating spell over the past three weeks.

My sister in law Aine was at her coolest as she delivered Litterale Ci fast and late to land the Mares Handicap Hurdle at Stratford in the colours of JP McManus.

We have had more than our share of seconds recently so it was a relief to see Litterale Ci  quicken smartly past Lucca Lady after the final flight.

Two miles at Stratford is on the sharp side for our mare and she was flat out heading down the back straight before moving into contention on the bend and easing through a gap on the rail with a perfectly timed challenge.

It is fair to say Noel Fehily  would have been proud of Aine’s ride on Litterale Ci  who enjoys good ground and could be out again in the next fortnight or so.

Noel then completed a timely double for the yard with an impressive success on the highly promising four year old Samarquand  on his racecourse debut in the first division of the bumper at Wincanton.

We put a hood on Samarquand to keep him chilled and although he has shown plenty at home he was as green as grass before knuckling down late on to see off Bold Plan who had won his only Point-to-Point.

It took Noel quite a while to pull him up after the line which is always a good sign. He is a really exciting horse for the future and will be now be off on his holidays before we plan a campaign for him next season.

Samarquand is the third successive horse owned by Phil Fry and Charlie Walker to make a winning debut for us in a bumper.
