Repeat Success for Cap

The gritty victory of If The Cap Fits in the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle was a timely boost for the yard after a recent quiet period.

Our season hasn’t really got going but Pure Bliss won in style on Friday and hopefully we can kick on now.

We knew the trip at Ascot was the bare minimum for If The Cap Fits but I liked the race for him because it gives us a month before he returns to the course for the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle.

He showed great character under Sean Bowen to get up and win after Call Me Lord cruised into the lead between the last two flights.

A brilliant jump at the last was crucial for If The Cap Fits who doesn’t give up easily and he dug deep to hold on by half a length.

It was the third time we have won the Coral Hurdle and it is fair to say that our horse has really only come to himself in the past couple of weeks.

He has had a couple of away trips for a gallop and you could see him getting better day by day.

I’m delighted for his owners Paul and Clare Rooney who are so patient with their team of horses.

We can go forward with confidence and look forward to the challenge of If The Cap Fits in the Long Walk. It will not be easy but he is a true three miler and we will give it a go.
