Aine O’Connor gained the biggest success of her career as an amateur jockey on Drumcliff in the valuable Clarke Chase at Uttoxeter on Sunday.

She was winning in the famous green and gold colours of JP McManus for the second time inside 24 hours following her excellent triumph on Litterale Ci at Ffos Las on Saturday evening.

Aine is great value for her 7 lbs claim and gave Drumcliff a perfect ride down the inner at Uttoxeter, having him handy all the way in a big field before moving into second place three out.

Viconte Du Noyer edged alongside at the last fence but Drumcliff found more on the flat and was firmly on top at the finish despite idling in front.

Although we couldn’t win a race with him over hurdles he is progressing nicely over fences with three wins from five starts.

He was out of his depth in the Kingmaker Chase at Warwick before finding conditions too soft at the Cheltenham Festival.

We have been waiting since then to run Drumcliff in a decent race on better ground which he got at Uttoxeter on Sunday.

As he clearly enjoys good going he looks a likely candidate for the Summer Plate at Market Rasen in July.
